Should I Upgrade My Old Ipad? Tech Help For Seniors In Victoria BC

the best apple iPad tablets for seniors

A client recently asked me: should I try to revive my very old iPad… or is it time to upgrade?

This comes up a lot, especially for seniors who just want something simple that works.

You see, very old devices become slow, confusing, and full of update warnings.

In my experience, using older tech causes a lot of seniors and casual users to become even more frustrated because of all these “unknown” messages which pop up abd add to the confusion and anxiety.

For the most part, people don’t need the top of the line iPad for everyday use, like browsing the internet, checking emails and watching Youtube.

For most of my clients, the iPad Air (latest mid-range model) is the best balance of simplicity, speed, and longevity. It does everything you need and then some. You’ll also benefit from using it for a very long time!

Conversely, if you don’t want to buy something brand-new, you can buy two year old iPad on Facebook Marketplace for usually 50% off!

So why do 70% of my clients use apple products?

Because the user experience for seniors is extremely logical once you know the basics.

Everything just works!

The learning curve is also very short and within one or two lessons, you’ll get the hang of it.

While Android tablets can be more affordable, many of my clients find Apple devices much easier to learn and use over time.

Though an Android is highly functional and less expensive, it is not as intuitive, especially if you have difficulty understanding all the myriad of functions.

Moreover, once you get your tablet, my advice is to keep the screen as minimal as possible.

Have only the essentials on it that won’t confuse you and is something that you will be using everyday, ie, web browser, email, Facebook, Youtube and whatever your preferences maybe.

If you’re in Victoria BC and unsure whether your iPad is worth keeping or upgrading, I can take a look with you in person and help you make the right decision.

Feel free to drop me a line and i’d be happy to help you get started!

Cheers!

Gavin
